A presentation about Finland and film screening: The Other Side of Hope, dir. Aki Kaurismaki, Finland, 2017, 98 min.

A black comedy, directed by Finnish cult film director Aki Kaurismäki and awarded at the last Berlin Film Festival. “The Other Side of Hope” tells the story of a Helsinki resident who accidentally stumbles upon a refugee from Syria – Khaled. Although the relationship between men begins unfortunately, they quickly build a deep connection. Kaurismäki does not remain deaf to the rising phenomenon of xenophobia and nationalism, but he manages to break through the layers of sadness and offer the audience a dose of optimism and contagious sense of humor.
